Dire condition of Copthorne Bank from Keepers Corner [RH6 9RP] to Cherry Tree pub [rh10 3JG] on both carriageways
Reported via mobile in the Pothole on a road - More than 150mm wide and more than 40mm deep category anonymously at 16:03, Friday 29 November 2024
Sent to Surrey County Council less than a minute later.
Whilst the repair crew semi-attended to the holes opposite the Cherry Tree pub [reference 3112497], they have not attended to all the other potholes and sunken drains along Copthorne Bank from the Cherry Tree to the traffic lights at Keepers Corner and back up the opposite carriageway. These were reported in with reference 3112497. Unfortunately, Copthorne Bank is so dangerous I was not prepared to walk the length of the road on both carriageways to specify the exact locations of the various holes. When I note that the repairs outside the Cherry Tree pub have been "semi-attended to", I mean that the quality of the repairs is unsatisfactory and additional holes haven't been attended to at all. Whilst some of these additional holes may not be exactly 4cm deep they are very ragged and will damage tyres – or cause drivers to swerve at the last moment. The pic attached showing the tape measure is of a "dent" that is well over 4 cm deep but it has rouned edges. This is still capable of knocking a cyclist off course and into the path of a vehicle. Also, whilst the repair crew is on site it is false economy not to fix all the other road surface damage at the same time, particularly as the crew closed Copthorne Bank whilst they were undertaking the repairs. I know you say you now use an adhesive in the pothole rather than overbanding but the very short period between repairs on Copthorne Bank is testament to the fact that either the adhesive isn't being deployed properly, or it isn't as effective as overbanding at keeping water out of the repair. As I have noted before, most of the surface damage is being caused by the huge HGV tipper lorries transiting Copthorne Bank [at silly speeds]. There is a sign at Keepers Corner, specifying that the road is unsuitable for HGV's but the sign is ignored. Isn't is possible for Copthorne Bank to be prohibited to HGV's? These issues have been present and repeated for years.
