Temporary lights on Esher High Street are severely out of sync

Reported via desktop in the Poor operation or delays category anonymously at 16:06, Wednesday 6 November 2024

Sent to Surrey County Council less than a minute later.

Traffic all around the Esher one way system (as well as up Claremonet Lane and both ways in and out of Esher) is chaotic and backed up due to the temporary traffic lights being out of sync and the timing of their relative operations not being thought through.

The lights currently seem to operate one direction only so each separate flow of traffic has to wait until the lights work through each flow, as well as all lights going red to enable pedesatrians to cross. This does not usually happen as crossing are staggered.

If waiting at the lights by PIzza Express you frequently have to wait 3-4 changes of lights and even then the box junction is blocked as people are frustrated at waiting.

The temporary lights for cars bearing left past The Bear are red for far longer than usual meaning that a far greater volume of cars are backing up past the Bear and back along to the box junction. The timing on this set in particular needs to be amended so that more traffic can flow.

This is a majpor junction. The road works are due to be in effect for another 9 days and the situation is getting untenable. People are beginning to get very irate at the junction and I can see that you may well get a severe incident of road rage if some adjustments are not made.

The disruption has to be seen to be believed. Whoever approved the syncing of the lights obviously hasn't been out to see how the junction is operating and needs to get out there, on-site, in order to make the necessary adjustments.

This delay is not only at rush hour but at all times of the day.

Please please please can someone go and look and sort it out? Thank you
