The Farncombe Initiative has been in correspondence with Surrey County Council for four years asking for the payment of our taxes to be honoured and our roads to be properly maintained. Many of the items below have been reported before.

Sent to Surrey County Council less than a minute later.

Road Comment 1 Green Lane Jnc with Binscombe Lane, worn out central section of Stop sign 2 Green Lane There are only the faintest remains of a SLOW sign are visible either side of platform in front of the school 3 Green Lane On the Binscombe Lane end of the ramp to road platform by the school, hotch potch of historic patch repairs and no white lines remain 4 Green Lane Barely visible markings at jnc with Long Gore 5 Green Lane White line all along bus stop layby no longer visible (opposite Barns Rd jnc) 6 Bourne Rd From its beginning at the end of Green Lane, no central white line remains all the way to its end past the level crossing blind summit to Summers Rd 7 Bourne Rd The yellow no-parking lines on the approach to the level crossing are virtually invisible 8 Summers Rd The ENTRANCE lettering at Broadwater school is barely visible 9 Summers Lane At the jnc with a loop of houses on the north side, there are no junction lines at all and worn-out yellow lines too. 10 Hare Lane Centre line from end of Farncombe St to Meadrow almost totally missing and road suffers for most of its length from eroded earlier gas supply trench, badly eroded edges to service covers. 11 Hare Lane Badly worn markings jnc. with Fern Rd. Such junctions are almost invisible at night and in winter. 12 Hare Lane Badly worn markings at wide jnc with Lower Manor Rd 13 Hare Lane Badly worn markings at jnc. with Tanners Mews 14 Lower Manor Rd Both junctions badly worn markings at both ends. This is important as it has a lot of school traffic twice a day. 15 Elizabeth Rd At jnc with Tudor Rd, badly worn white junction lines and also the yellow lines on corners 16 George Rd Worn out centre line outside the school 17 Station Rd Badly worn junction lines at jnc with Grays Rd 18 Hurtmore Road The centre line is invisible for long distances and only faintly visible in summer daylight. All of it will be non-visible in winter. Also, especially near the right-angle corner with chevrons, the road surface has been breaking up for many years, and midway between that corner and junction with Priorsfield Rd, there is an area of multiple, poorly repaired potholes. This area needs a wholesale renewal of the hot rolled asphalt to make any long-term improvement. 19 Frith Hill & Twycross Rd The top of Frith Hill has many small potholes which will inevitably worsen this coming winter, the entire centre line along Twycross Road is only faintly visible and all the SLOW warning signs, both up and down, are barely visible. These are particularly important as coming down the hill becomes a narrow single track from all the parked cars. 20 Lower Farncombe St and layby The associate yellow lines are poor or missing altogether. From the main signal box level crossing including the parking area directly outside the shops which has been badly potholed for years. Also there are lots of potholes from poor repairs now with the underlying stony base visible and will therefore get eroded readily during rain.

21 Lower Manor Rd Both junctions badly worn markings at both ends. This is important as it has a lot of school traffic twice a day. 22 Elizabeth Rd At jnc with Tudor Rd, badly worn white junction lines and also the yellow lines on corners The list now includes the most significant blocked drains observed in early Spring 2024 and clear evidence of long-term neglect of kerbside road cleaning Road drains 1 Summers Lane/ New Pond Rd SCC Ref. 2918769. 29 Mar 2024 There are 9 drains, all blocked, and road completely covered in flood ~10cm deep flood for at least 15 m length. 2 Chalk Rd opp. Old Station Rd SCC Ref. 2918778. 29 Mar 2024 All 3 drains have been blocked for decades which result in flooding right across the road whenever it rains 3 Chalk Rd/ Meadrow/ Bridge St Roundabout SCC Ref. 2918776. 29 Mar 2024 Drain at centre of roundabout permanently blocked and large lake across the road during rain. 4 Nightingale Rd SCC Ref. 2918779. 29 Mar 2024 Blocked drain opp. No 5 & 17, and 2 more drains adjacent to rail bridge. 5 Hurtmore Rd SCC Ref. 2918783. 29 Mar 2024 3 blocked drains LHS from jnct with Charterhouse Rd, and Quarry Rd, but possibly many others disguised under large puddles either side of the road. 6 Borough Rd SCC Ref. 2918774. 29 Mar 2024 Entire centre line & 3 blocked drains. 7 Eashing Lane SCC Ref. 2923442. 05 Apr 2024 Blocked drains 8 Deanery Rd nr jnc with Nightingale Rd (see 28 above) Two drains totally blocked for decades (leave fall from roadside trees) 9 Deanery Rd SCC Ref. 2986905. 18 Jun 2024 Blocked drain LHS as ascend, by Bryn Tor steps. “SCC reply 24 Jun 2024: “Drains inspected and I have requested gullies in this area to be cleaned and pipes jetted”. 10 Farncombe Hill (Frith Hill) SCC Ref. 2986918 Blocked drainSCC reply 24 Jun 2024: “SCC reply 24 Jun 2024: “Drains inspected and I have the requested gullies in this area to be cleaned and pipes jetted”. 11 Farncombe Hill, LHS 15m from jnct with Farncombe St SCC Ref. 2986925. 18 Jun 2024 Blocked drain“SCC reply 24 Jun 2024: “Drains inspected and I have requested gullies in this area to be cleaned and pipes jetted”. 12 Charterhouse Rd SCC Ref. 2986941. 18 Jun 2024 3 blocked drains LHS as descend before bridge, and 7 afterwards. General points 1. Junction markings are usually asymmetric: one side is virtually invisible (the vehicle acceleration side away from the junction), as is the short centre line on the approach on the same side). 2. Virtually all residential streets have not received any kerb cleaning for a very long time, so the road margins next to the pavement are awash with gravel from past or present potholes, and also heavy weed or grass growth. 3. When did it become SCC policy to stop all kerb cleaning except on the major of local roads? The immediate impact of course is that where there are roadside trees, the drains get excessively blocked with gravel, kerbside weeds and the annual leave fall. 4. The roadside gullies are rarely cucked clean and we have clear proof that even where they have been seen to have been cleaned at the roadside yet still blocked with the next rain, it is clear that the actual drainage route itself from the gull
