Speeding traffic and narrow footpath

Reported via desktop in the Concern about speeding traffic category anonymously at 09:17, Wednesday 9 October 2024

Sent to Surrey County Council less than a minute later.

I walk this route a lot and am concerned about the consistent speeding traffic, especially going down the hill. The traffic speeds up as soon as it leaves Reigate and it is no fun having 32 ton tippers doing over 40 mph within a couple of feet of pedestrians. Together with the path being narrow and this being exacerbated by overgrowth this creates a dangerous environment. I am surprised that money has been spent on traffic calming on the A217 at Hookwood which has minimal footfall whereas Cockshot Hill footpath is a very busy route for commuters walking into Reigate and schoolchildren walking to Woodhatch, yet nothing has been done to improve the safety of this route. Having said that, the road has recently been resurfaced to enable the traffic to travel more quickly and the rainbow crossing has been repainted.
